Sharjah supermarket fire kills 2

Sharjah – A fire, which broke out in a supermarket in Sharjah on Friday, left at least two Asians dead and five others injured.
It is reported that a 16-storey building on Al Arouba Street in Sharjah caught fire at around midnight. Super market chain Al Manama, operating from ground and first floor of the building, was completely gutted.
The fire started in a shop of the same building but extended quickly to upper apartment. The fire gutted the shop completely, but didn’t cause severe damage to the apartment, according to Civil Defense.
The operation room of Civil Defense received a call at 12.30am about the fire. Firefighters from the headquarters were immediately dispatched. They reached the site in two minutes and contained the fire in 30 minutes to prevent it from reaching other residential apartments in the building.
The police closed-down Al Arooba Street, and traffic heading towards Ajman was diverted to Corniche road. The building and the shopping center was evacuated of its residents and power was disconnected from the whole building for safety.
