Emirates airline, flydubai codeshare deal expands to 16 destinations

Staff Report

Dubai – Emirates airline and flydubai passengers can now fly to more places on a single ticket, with the launch of additional destinations on Tuesday.
Emirates has confirmed that 16 new destinations, including those in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Russia and Nepal, have just been added to its shared network with flydubai.

“The new, expanded network now includes sought-after destinations such as Zanzibar, Kathmandu and Kilimanjaro,” the airline said in a statement.

Flyers can secure their tickets through the airline’s website, contact centres or travel agents for trips starting from November 8, 2017.
The Dubai-based carrier announced in July that it is joining forces with flydubai to scale up operations and accelerate growth. Under the partnership, both airlines continue to be managed independently, but the new tie-up has consequently opened up more rewards to passengers.

New codeshare destinations: Bratislava (Slovakia), Chittagong (Bangladesh), Djibouti (Djibouti), Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Hargeisa (Somalia), Istanbul – Sabiha Gokcen (Turkey), Kathmandu (Nepal), Kilimanjaro (Tanzania), Mattala Rajapaksa (Sri Lanka), Makhachkala (Russia), Podgorica (Montenegro), Sylhet (Bangladesh), Ufa (Russia), Voronezh (Russia), Yerevan (Armenia), and Zanzibar (Tanzania).
Initially, 29 destinations were launched in the first phase of the partnership and the response from flyers has been positive, with nearly 14,000 sectors ticketed during the first week of operation, surpassing expectations, said Emirates president Sir Tim Clark.
“We have witnessed strong demand for travel from Europe and the United States to South Asian destinations.”
Flydubai Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith said the newly expanded network will allow passengers to discover more destinations and “enjoy the unique personality of each airline.”
Emirates Skywards members can earn Skywards miles and Skywards Tier Miles on codeshare flights as per the existing Skywards mileage programme.

In addition to the Emirates free checked baggage allowance, Skywards Premium members can also enjoy their extra checked baggage allowances of 20 kilograms (Platinum members), 16 kg (Gold members) and 12 kg (Silver members) on codeshare flights operated by flydubai.
Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members travelling on codeshare flights can access flydubai’s Business Check-in counters and receive priority tags. – abdulbasit@theuaenews.com
