Emirates falconers club awards pioneering falconers

Dubai: Emirates falconers club awarded a pioneering group of falconers and researchers who witnessed the 1st Edition of the International Festival of Falconry  that took place under the patronage and guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 1976.

Awarded falconers were honoured on last Thursday by His Excellency Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Deputy Chairman of Emirates Falconers Club, His Excellency Majed Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee and Executive Director of the Emirates Falconers Club, that was organized by Emirates Falconers Club in partnership with the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey and New York University-Abu Dhabi.

The Deputy Chairman of Emirates Falconers Club conveyed a message to the awarded falconers where he expressed his appreciation and thanks for the efforts they exerted in their role as companions to the late leader Sheikh Zayed in his vision for the world of falconry and his great efforts towards strengthening falconry and removing all obstacles that could be faced by those who practice this sport in all parts of the world.

In the speech of his Excellency Majed Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee and Executive Director of the Emirates Falconers which was given on behalf of His Excellency Mohammed Bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, Deputy Chairman of Emirates Falconers Club, Al Mansouri expressed that it is a great event to be among the experienced falconers who contributed to laying the foundations for the Falconry Festival in 1976 under the patronage of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the leader of sustainability and who left a great impact in setting the first global strategy for falconry. He added that what
we are experiencing today is in the presence of 117 falconry clubs and schools around the world and 92 registered countries in the International Association for Falconry and Conservation of Birds of Prey.

At the award ceremony it was announced that the date of the 5th Edition of the International Festival of Falconry will be 2020, in addition to the announcement of the launch of two leading projects in the field of falconry and protection of the environment. One of them is the establishment of the ‘Sheikh Zayed Falconry Heritage Library,’ which will be an important resource for researchers and experts in the field of falconry. The second project is the establishment of the ‘Mohammed Bin Zayed Raptor Conservation Fund,’ which will have a major role in protecting the heritage and the conservation of all kinds of falcons and their lineage.

The falconers who received awards expressed their pride and were moved and happy with this unique participation in the largest falconry event in the world.

The award ceremony was attended by several falconers, researchers and experts and several local and international organisations related to the conservation of the falconry heritage. Present in the festival are more than 700 falconers and researchers representing 90 countries. The festival will continue through till 9th December.
