It’s going to be a historic day in Saudi Arabia’s history as women in the Kingdom will legally be allowed to drive for the first time on June 24, 2018.
From Sunday women are now allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia for the first time in history. The recent decree has ended the world’s only ban on women drivers.
The change will transform millions of lives and will help drive positive social and economic change.
As the largest mover of people in Saudi Arabia, ride hailing app Careem, has been preparing for the announcement by investing almost $80 million over the past five years in its Saudi Arabia operations. Money has gone on infrastructure, call centres, and affordable on-demand transportation services across the country.
Throughout 2018, $30 million was invested in Careem’s Saudi Arabian operations alone as the company shows its support for Vision 2030. -abdulbasit@theuaenews.com
