Following Saudi Arabia, the UAE announced that Friday, August 2, 2019, is the beginning of the month of Zul Hijjah for the year 1440 AH. The Day of Arafat will be on August 10, while Eid Al Adha will be on Sunday, August 11.

According to a statement issued by the Saudi Supreme Court, the announcement came after the court committees checked and saw the crescent of Zul Hijjah 1440 on Thursday evening.

In a statement published by Saudi Press Agency, SPA, the Supreme Court announced that after receiving verified testimonies of seeing Zul-Hijja crescent by regional courts and many witnesses from different parts of the Kingdom, it has confirmed that Friday is the first day of Zul-Hijja.

Arafat day, the climax of the annual Hajj pilgrimage, which always falls on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijja, will fall on Saturday, August 10.

Oman announced that Monday, August 12, will be the first day of Eid Al Adha. Friday, August 2, is the 30th day of the Islamic month of Dhu Al Qa’da.

On the Day of Arafat, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims will throng Makkah on the second day of the pilgrimage to ascend Mount Arafat, marking the peak point of the five-day Hajj ritual.

On this big Hajj day, pilgrims converge from dawn on the Mount Arafat plain and the hill known as Jabal Al Rahma, or Mount of Mercy, dedicated to prayers and reflection,

The first day of Eid Al Adha always falls on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijja, one day after the Arafat Day, according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

Earlier, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) announced a four-day holiday for both the public and private sector in the UAE, from 9th to 12th of Dhu Al Hijja.
