Ramada Hotel & Suites by Wyndham Ajman, Ramada by Wyndham Beach Hotel Ajman, and Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche, in partnership with Ajman University, joined the global observance of World Diabetes Day.
With this year’s theme, Diabetes: Protect Your Family, the hotels organised a roundtable for children and teenagers, aged 11 to 17 who are currently dealing with Type 1 diabetes. The participants shared their experiences and gave advice on how to accept and better manage the condition. The event also incorporated an awareness campaign on how to recognise warning signs of diabetes, and help prevent Type 2 diabetes through a healthy lifestyle.
After the discussion, the hotels’ chef-prepared nutritious meals, including low-carb dishes and healthy desserts. The activity was held at The Penthouse of Ramada by Wyndham Beach Hotel Ajman and was attended by families whose parents or children are dealing with diabetes.
Seventeen-year-old Syeda Emaan Iftikhar, the roundtable’s moderator, shared: “It is important to have a support group and to able to impart our first-hand experience to others who are currently coping with this condition. We hope that through this discussion, we will be able to acquire more information and tips on managing diabetes, as well as educate others for them to better understand what we and our families are going through on a daily basis.”
According to the International Diabetes Federation, 425 million people worldwide have diabetes and one in every two people with diabetes is undiagnosed. World Diabetes Day is the world’s largest diabetes awareness campaign reaching a global audience of over 1 billion people in more than 160 countries. – abdulbasit@theuaenews.com
