The event will once again be hosted by Jamal Al Ghurair, Managing Director and Principal Shareholder of Al Khaleej Sugar and Jacob Robbins, Founder and CEO of Emeterra.

Over 700 delegates from over 62 countries will attend the three-day conference. The event will feature 50 speakers from all major sugar producing, consuming and trading countries to evaluate the current state of the market; assess regional fundamentals changes longer-term and debate future threats and opportunities for the industry.

Some of the key speakers include Jamal Al Ghurair; João Doria, Governor of the State of São Paulo, Brazil; Gustavo Diniz Junqueira, the Secretary of Agriculture of the State of Sao Paulo; Evandro Gussi, President and CEO, Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA); and senior executives from DMCC and DP World amongst others.

The conference focuses on a number of strategic topics of interest to the global sugar industry and trade, the most prominent of which are: the possibility of stopping the rise in future sugar prices after a drop in oil prices, how the reaction of the sugar ethanol mix in Brazil will be affected, how the decline in the Thai sugar cane crop will affect the prices of sugar in the coming decades, and the impact of Indian crop, given the significant drop in production in Maharashtra.

In addition, the speakers will also discuss key topics that will impact the industry – declining oil prices, innovation and how the industry is being revolutionised by blockchain technology.

Jamal Al Ghurair, Managing Director of Al Khaleej Sugar, said: “Although the sugar industry and trade faced some headwinds during 2019, the number of companies participating in the “Dubai World Sugar 2020” conference has actually increased with the awareness of many important players in the sugar sector. The conference is the most prominent and best event in the region to understand the trends that the market is likely to take during the current year.”

“The Sugar conference is an excellent platform for everyone within the sugar value chain to exchange of ideas, forge new business ties and come up with the best solutions for the sugar industry. The event brings well-known people from within the industry to discuss key market developments / trends of this sector,” he added. – abdulbasit@theuaenews.com
