Staff Report: The Gujranwala Jalsa will become a milestone in the political history of Pakistan and would give a tough time to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
This was stated on Thursday by Engineer Amir Muqam, former federal minister and President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that a huge gathering and a power-packed jalsa on Friday will fire up the campaign and put the Imran-led government under immense pressure.
The PML-N leader said blocking roads with containers, raiding corner meetings, arresting PDM workers across Punjab and harassing PDM supporters won’t deter the spirit of the masses who have decided to rid the country of this disastrous government. He said the PDM has a constitutional right to hold a public meeting. He said people are struggling to feed their families because of the unprecedentedinflation and unemployment created by this government.
“The members of the sugar, flour and petrol mafias are sitting around the prime minister, but he is unable to take action against them,” he maintained. Amir Muqam said that this government was pushing the poor to commit suicides. He believed that Prime Minister Imran Khan had caused immense damage to the country and its economy. He added that inflation and unemployment had made life miserable for the poor.
Meanwhile, confrontation between the government and multiparty opposition alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), has touched a new high a day before the latter’s first protest public meeting in Gujranwala.
Arrests of PDM workers particularly the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) activists, raiding of corner meetings by police and tearing apart its banners have exasperated the situation.
The PDM has announced that since it has not been issued the permission by the district administration of Gujranwala to hold the public rally at the Jinnah Stadium, it is organizing its protest on the GT Road.
