The UAE News report by Anthon Garcia: The Philippine Consulate-General (PCG) in Dubai alerted Filipino nationals and the media that its premises will be temporarily closed beginning today, January 17, until tomorrow, January 18, due to possible exposure to Covid-19.
In a statement posted on its website, the PCG said it will undergo extensive sanitation procedures to ensure the health and safety of its clients and urged those who availed of its consular services today to get tested “as soon as practicable”.
Hon. Paul Raymund P. Cortes has confirmed to The UAE News that there have been positive exposures but did not give any exact figures. “That’s why we needed to schedule another disinfection tomorrow to make sure that our clients are in the best possible environment,” Cortes added.
John Paul Cabangon, a Filipino who recently got a job was supposed to visit the consulate to submit his papers for accreditation. “It is good they made the announcement quickly. I remember being at the PCG recently to inquire about the requirements for contract verification and I observed the strict COVID safety precautions. Masks are strictly required on entry, while distancing is observed. I also noticed several hand sanitisers in place. I hope nothing serious happens.”

In a press briefing last November 2020 at the consular office in Dubai, Consul General Paul Raymund P. Cortes said around 50,000 Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates since June last year for various reasons related to COVID-19.
