Dusit International, a renowned Thai hospitality brand, aims to open more than 50 hotels in the next three years, primarily in Asia, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. This was revealed by Mr. Prateek Kumar, Senior Vice President of Operations, during an interview with The UAE News at the Arabian Travel Market, which concluded in Dubai on May 9, 2024.

“Our objective is to double our current number of operational hotels within the next three years.

said Prateek Kumar

Dusit International has announced ambitious expansion plans, aiming to open 10 new properties worldwide this year. This announcement comes following the successful opening of 10 properties last year, bringing the total number of operational hotels to 57, with an additional 60 under construction.

Speaking about the expansion plans, Mr. Kumar stated, “Last year, we opened 10 properties, and this year, we’re set to open another 10 properties around the world. Our objective is to double our current number of operational hotels within the next three years.”

Emphasizing the brand’s selective approach to expansion, he added, “We don’t have ambitions to reach 5,000 or 6,000 hotels. We choose our destinations and partners very carefully, ensuring that our values are aligned, and the association is meaningful.”

Highlighting recent accomplishments and upcoming projects, he mentioned, “Last year, we opened our first two hotels in Japan, and this year, we’re opening a third. We also expanded into Nepal, Kenya, and Greece, with our first property in Europe located in Athens. Additionally, we’re excited to announce our first hotel in India.”

GCC and Middle East

Prateek Kumar said, “The GCC and the Middle East are key priority areas for our growth strategy. Currently, we have eight operational properties in this region, with four hotels in the UAE alone. We are confident that we can double our presence here, aiming to have between eight to ten properties in the UAE within the next three to five years.”

Scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2024, the 150-key Dusit Princess Al Majma’ah, Riyadh, is set to make a significant impact on Riyadh’s hospitality landscape, establishing itself as the first internationally branded hotel in Al Majma-ah. Designed to cater primarily to business travelers, the hotel enjoys a strategic location adjacent to Majmaah University and a short distance from the rapidly developing Sudair Industrial and Business City. Moreover, King Khalid International Airport is conveniently accessible, just a one-hour and 40-minute drive away.

Dusit Thani Bangkok

Dusit International’s highly anticipated project is the reopening of its iconic property, Dusit Thani Bangkok, in commemoration of the brand’s 75-year legacy. Scheduled to reopen on September 27th this year, after a comprehensive redevelopment costing AED 4.5 billion, the hotel promises to redefine luxury hospitality in the heart of Bangkok.

The newly rebuilt 257-key hotel, described as a “super luxury mixed-use development” by Mr. Kumar, promises to offer an unparalleled experience to its guests. Designed to honour the heritage of its predecessor, the hotel will once again be a symbol of Thai-inspired gracious hospitality. Each guest room, including elegant suites crafted by the internationally acclaimed Asian interior design firm André Fu Studio, starts at an impressive 50 sq m.

A unique feature of the hotel is its singular corridor floorplan, ensuring that every room offers breathtaking views of Lumpini Park through expansive floor-to-ceiling windows. Additionally, guests can relax and enjoy the scenery from elegantly designed window seating.

The new Dusit Thani Bangkok will also introduce an urban wellness concept, elevated dining experiences in collaboration with renowned chefs, and a stylish multi-level rooftop bar created in partnership with award-winning mixologists. Furthermore, the hotel will feature expansive banqueting and meeting facilities spanning over 5,000 sq m. This includes one of the largest grand ballrooms in Bangkok, boasting an impressive eight-meter-high ceiling and a panoramic view of Lumpini Park, along with a diverse selection of meeting spaces for intimate gatherings and large-scale events.

With its new benchmarks in service, design, and overall guest experience, Dusit Thani Bangkok is set to become a hallmark of excellence, setting new standards for Dusit Hotels and Resorts worldwide.

Sustainability

Responding a question, Prateek Kumar elaborated on the sustainability efforts of Dusit International, stating, “Sustainability is one of our key pillars. We go beyond simple measures like replacing plastic straws; we aim to make a meaningful impact. For example, we engage with local communities, support local farmers, and implement initiatives like water bottling plants to reduce plastic waste.”

He explained, “We were among the pioneers in the hospitality industry to establish our own water bottling plants and introduce fully recyclable bottles, eliminating the use of plastic bottles that were once ubiquitous. While many other hotels have since adopted similar practices, we were one of the first to do so. As a result of this initiative, we have prevented 650,000 plastic bottles from ending up in landfills every year.”

Job creation

Discussing the importance of education and job creation, Mr. Kumar highlighted Dusit International’s commitment to nurturing talent through programs like Dusit College. “We firmly believe in creating the leaders of tomorrow for the hospitality industry,” he said.

Destination Dubai

Commenting on the future of Dubai as a destination, Mr. Kumar expressed optimism, stating, “Dubai continues to reinvent itself and outdo itself. With its world-class infrastructure and diverse offerings, Dubai is unmatched as a destination. We are very bullish on Dubai continuing to grow from strength to strength in the next few years.” – abdulbasit@theuaenews.com
