Dubai: It’s a shocking day for Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan as Aishwarya Rai lost her father on Saturday in Mumbai.

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s father passed away in Mumbai on Saturday.

Krishnaraj Rai was hospitalised few weeks ago due to health-related issues, friends and family have confirmed.

Earlier, the actress cut her Dubai trip short and returned as soon as her father was hospitalised.

Her husband, Abhishek Bachchan, also rushed back from New York to see his ailing father-in-law’s side.

Aishwarya’s father-in-law, Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan had earlier excused himself from attending The Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt – due to Krishnaraj’s illness.

He was expected to be there on March 21 and 22. Bachchan was to be honoured during the closing ceremony of the sixth edition of the film festival.

Krishnaraj was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital where he had undergone a treatment for cancer in the past and apparently the cancer had relapsed.

He is survived by wife Vrinda, son Aditya and daughter Aishwarya.
