In the United Arab Emirates, the largest telecom provider Etisalat is offering its subscribers access to super-fast speeds on 5G fixed networks from their homes across the country.
The move is aimed at to enable them to stream high bandwidth 4K videos in addition to enjoy cloud based gaming and low latency to fulfil their need of the accelerated for immersive technologies such as augmented reality (AI) and virtual reality (VR).
Saeed Al Zarouni, Senior Vice President, Mobile Network at Etisalat stated that the deployment of 5G FWA is again a major 5G achievement for Etisalat, which is the result of the company’s continuous efforts in bringing the best in technology and infrastructure to Etisalat subscribers in UAE.
It is stated that this is only the beginning of the next evolution of fixed wireless technologies in the country and the immense possibilities of innovation for country’s residents as well as businesses, Al Zarouni added.
It’s quite easy process as Etisalat 5G FWA CPE (customer premise equipment) will be installed at the subscriber’s home and then it will be connected wirelessly to the 5G towers broadcasting the wireless signal.
It is quite similar way it was don in the case of fibre optic as the customer connects a WiFi router to the 5G CPE to provide broadband services.
The telecom provider set a huge milestone in the telecom industry by emerging the first telecom operator in the Middle East and Africa region in May 2018 to kick start the commercial 5G network offering fixed wireless service in the country.
And it was followed by another huge milestone by connecting and partnering with the World Expo 2020 Dubai as the first major commercial customer in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia to offer 5G network services.
Last year in May, UAE’s Etisalat was the first telecom operator in the MENA region to enable its subscribers to get the power of the 5G network and also issued the first 5G handsets before many other operators in the region.
UAE’s largest telecom operator also became the first telecom operator in the MENA region to offer indoor 5G network in selected buildings in the UAE.
