Coronavirus cases in Pakistan have crossed 100,000 as Sindh reported 1,744 new infections. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that 8,119 tests were conducted during the last 24 hours, out of which 1,744 came back positive, taking the provincial tally to 38,108.

The province has also reported 16 more deaths from the virus, taking its total fatalities to 650. Shah said that 414 patients are in critical condition while 67 are on ventilators.

The chief minister said that 577 people recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries in the province to 18,776.

Karachi tops in Sindh’s Covid-19 cases

Eighty per cent of Sindh’s confirmed coronavirus cases have been reported from Karachi, according to data released by the provincial health department.

Of the 38,108 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Sindh, 30,548, a whopping 80pc, have been reported from the metropolis.

Moreover, the provincial capital currently has 15,473 active cases of Covid-19, which accounts for 83pc of Sindh’s active cases.

More than 14,000 people have recovered from the respiratory disease in Karachi.

250 ventilators distributed among provinces

Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said that the federal government distributed 250 ventilators among the provinces in the last week.

“Of these, 72 were given to Punjab, 52 each to Sindh and KP and 20 to Balochistan,” he wrote on Twitter.

The remaining 54 were distributed among Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added.

Umar also announced that the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has, in collaboration with National Information Technology Board, launched an updated version of government’s Covid-19 app.

“An updated version of Covid-19 app will allow users to see availability of beds/vents & capacity/usage in real-time at various health centres across Pakistan,” he said.
