Under the patronage of Fujairah Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammad Bin Hammad Bin Mohammad Al Sharki, Fujairah is set to host the Open Arab Taekwondo and 8th Fujairah G2 Championship organised by Al Fujairah for Martial Arts and supervised by the UAE Taekwondo Federation, from January 28-February 2.

The announcement was made at the official press conference held in Al Fujairah Club attended by the President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, Brigadier General Ahmad Hamdan Al Zyoudi; Vice President, Zayed Al Sweidi; and event manager, Nader Abu Shaweesh.

Al Zyoudi conveyed the warm welcome of the Fujairah Crown Prince and expressed the organisation’s gratitude for his support in hosting an event which has earned a fantastic global reputation by welcoming many world champions since it began.

Al Zyoudi added that he expected a record number of participating athletes with over 1,300 fighters from over 40 countries due to take part, alongside 400 competitors from the UAE in both competitions.

He said that these impressive numbers demonstrated the trust placed in the event by the world governing body and praised the World Taekwondo Federation’s (WT) decision to upgrade it to a G2 championship, which attracts more top fighters with higher ranking points up for grabs.
He also thanked the Arab Taekwondo Federation for allowing Fujairah to host the event.

Al Sweidi declared that the UAE teams were ready to compete in both events and said their eyes will be fixed on securing podium places.

Meanwhile, event manager, Abu Shaweesh, expressed his happiness on the number of participants and countries taking part and pointed out that there are countries competing in Fujairah for the first time, including Brazil and Haiti.

While the main event is attracting 1,300 participants from 40 countries, the Arab Championship will welcome over 600 athletes from 14 countries.
