Staff Report
Mr. Kamal Vachani, Chairman of Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, has extended full support for the International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated across the World on June 21, 2020, to highlight the benefits of yoga in people’s daily routine.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s International Yoga Day will be observed at home virtually with the theme: ‘Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family.’
Mr. Vachani said, “GOPIO Dubai and the Northern Emirates will continue its support to the International Day of Yoga like last year in the UAE.”
In 2019, more than 4,000 people from different nationalities attended the International Day of Yoga in Dubai, which was organised by the Indian Consulate in Dubai. GOPIO was among the organisations which had supported the programme.
Mr. Vachani said, “Due to the contagious nature of coronavirus, no mass gathering would be held this year. GOPIO encourages people to practise yoga at their home, along with the entire family. This year the yoga is more important as it strengthens the immune and the respiratory system, which is needed during COVID-19 outbreak.”
Consul General of India in Dubai Mr. Vipul said, “I would like to thank GOPIO Dubai Chapter for their support of the celebrations of International Day of Yoga in Dubai. All GOPIO members should promote the message of doing Yoga regularly especially to fight Covid-19. Everyone should do Yoga on June 21 at their homes to celebrate IDY 2020.”
In India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation, like every year, on the occasion of International Yoga Day at 6:30am on June 21.
