Staff Report
Fine is starting from September 12 for visitors or tourists whose visit visas expired after March 1 as the extension expired last night and no further extension is announced till filing of this report.
An Amer call centre staff said the penalty for overstay is Dh200 for the day one. “The correct fine amount will be calculated by the immigration authorities at the UAE airports. The fines are Dh200 for the day one of the overstays and then Dh100 for the each consecutive day, and Dh100 will be charged as service fees,” according to the staff.
It is not confirmed that the fine will start from the visa expiry date or from September 11. The accurate calculation will be done by the immigration officers at the point of exit, according to Amer staff.
The staff added that there is no intimation received about the extension of validity of visas.
Last month, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) had given extension of one month for visitors whose tourist or visit visas finished after March 1. The visa extension started on August 11 and expired on September 11.
Earlier, the ICA in a tweet announced that the authority is extending the grace period of expiring entry permits from August 11 for one month period and the aim is to allow those expired entry permit holders to leave the country without paying any fine.
The UAE government is very kind with the expired entry permit holders since the outbreak of coronavirus and giving them more and more time to leave for their home countries without paying fines. In this regard on July 10, 2020, the government had said that expired visit or tourist visa holders should leave the country in a month which was August 11, 2020.
A travel agent told The UAE News that a majority of those overstaying on tourist or visit visa had already availed of the extensions given by the government as there is no big rush to book the tickets.
It is recorded that during the August extension expiry date, a lot of people booked tickets and left the country by availing the exemption in fine and now there are very few applications, he added.
