UAE announced the first day of the holy month of Ramadan after the crescent was sighted on Thursday evening, according to local media.

Ramadan will be begin on April 24 (Friday) in the UAE.

Earlier, according to a tweet by Astronomy Center, the moon was photographed on Thursday at 12.02pm from Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.

The UAE moon sighting committee will meet later in the evening, after the Maghrib prayer, and official announce the beginning of the holy month.

The fast starts after a light meal before Fajr called ‘suhour’ while the meal ending the fast is called ‘iftar’. On Friday, in Dubai the first day of Ramadan, Fajr timing is at 4.27am, while Maghreb is at 6.49pm.

It is permissible for COVID-19 patients not to fast Ramadan, the UAE Fatwa Council announced on Sunday. Healthy people must fast, declared the council following a virtual meeting chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, a few days ago.
